Are computers transforming humanity?

If primitive hand tools changed us from gatherers to hunters, and the invention
of the printing press propagated literacy while downgrading the importance of
the oral tradition, what individual and cultural transformations do new computer
technologies portend?

Keeping pace with evolving technologies

IT leaders are struggling to manage workers and customers who demand constant
connections, mobility and flexibility, prefer electronic networking over

Changed antitrust rules could curb tech mergers

The U.S. Department of Justice last week repealed a short-lived Bush-era policy
on investigating antitrust violations. The move signals a more aggressive
approach toward antitrust enforcement that could blunt activity by major
technology vendors like Google, Oracle and IBM.

Green gotchas: The pitfalls of tech recycling

In recent years, recycling has become a high priority for IT departments. Yet as
recycling efforts are ramping up, more managers are finding themselves coping
with shady recyclers that dispose of IT assets in environmentally irresponsible
ways, potentially exposing sensitive enterprise data in the process.

PC energy use still unmanaged

A survey shows that most companies haven't deployed PC power management tools or
policies, which means they're wasting money. One barrier: The IT department
doesn't own the energy budget.
