Why Now is the Right Time for the Linux Desktop
Faced with tighter budgets, enterprises are rethinking their desktop strategies
to deliver the same -- if not better -- services and support to their users. At
the same time, Linux is fast emerging as a plausible if not superior desktop
solution. As it turns out, the business value proposition of Linux on the
desktop is extraordinarily compelling. This Webcast dives into this value
proposition while showcasing a readily available Linux desktop solution that is
the leading the way to greater cost efficiency.

Speed Test: Windows 7 May Not Be Much Faster Than Vista

Improving performance is one of Microsoft's design goals with Windows 7, and
many early reviewers (including ours) have said that the new OS seems peppier
than Vista. But tests of the Windows 7 Release Candidate in our PC World Test
Center found that while Windows 7 was slightly faster on our WorldBench 6 suite,
the differences may be barely noticeable to users.

Will Windows 7 Really Run on a Netbook?

Netbooks, low-cost laptops originally designed for sale in countries with
emerging economies, are becoming more popular in developed economies with
consumers and business users who tend to use their own computers for work.
Although these computers were initially offered with Linux, Windows XP has
become an increasingly popular operating system option for netbooks,
particularly given the conventional wisdom that they are not powerful enough to
run Windows Vista. So what about using Windows 7 on a netbook? After using the
beta on a netbook for a few weeks, it appears that Windows 7 is a workable OS
for this class of computers.

Preston Gralla: The artists behind Windows 7's whacked-out art

Perhaps the most entertaining feature of Windows 7 is its truly whacked-out
desktop backgrounds --- a weird combination of Sergeant Pepper-style
psychedelics, Japanese anime, and some Hieronymus Bosch grotesques. I've got
information about the artists behind the art, as well as screenshots.
